Well. Upon watching, I must say that while I am ecstatic to have the trio (now foursome!) back, I wasn't too impressed by this episode, especially the first half or so (it did alright for itself at the end). Emotional uneveness, random dramatic monologues, only a tiny bit of humor / domesticity coupled with lots of ANGST, and, oh look, yet another woman who turns men evil with her sheer sexual power. (However, though the ending seemed kind of compressed and random, I was interested in the direction they eventually took Daisy's character. I wonder if we'll see her again.) And, as if this weren't bad enough, GEORGE IS BEING A SHIT, and I want to SMACK him, though at least he repented at the end (and I still think Nina was much kinder to him than he deserved). On the contrary, George - not everything is about you! My god, it's Tully all over again. And I'm definitely getting tired of bad things that happen to women in order to showcase George's epic man pain. (Again, see: the Tully affair.)
On the plus side, though, Nina continues to be made of ten thousand equally fantastic types of awesome, Annie too (I do hope they bring back the "advanced powers" storyline). I love their burgeoning friendship, and suspect they will soon be a Force to Be Reckoned With in the house. And Mitchell, of course, continues to be a loveable dork* who flirts by giving goldfish. By the way, did anyone else like the new characters - the doctor and the bartender? I quite did. I thought that for supporting cast, they had a lot of character, if you'll pardon the pun. And, though this will probably not happen at least in one case, I really hope they focus more on the friendship than the romantic side of these new relationships - the doctor & Mitchell and the bartender & Annie - because they're both rather sweet, and both Annie and Mitchell need more friends in their... lives. Unlives. Deaths?
*This, I think, was one of the main reasons I ended up laughing for the last five minutes of the episode, as the mysterious old white dude did his dramatic biblical monologue. He's spouting off about David in the lion's den, dramatic music is building, and all this is done against what is probably the least threatening background ever. Squishy armchairs! Dorky movie posters! Dirty laundry! Laurel and Hardy! Gnome wallpaper!
Clearly, this is the dwelling place of some unspeakable evil.

Date: 2010-01-13 12:51 am (UTC)On the one hand, I like that George is shrieky and selfish, because it makes his character so much more human, but that's because though he is those things (and can occasionally be a bit of a bastard), he's also grudgingly brave, unexpectedly kind, and ridiculously loyal. I mean, he was willing to kill a guy for the man he loves*! Is it so hard for the writers to believe that he wouldn't extend that same loyalty - less, even! - to the woman he loves as well?
Yeah, the end was suckish, but at the same time, it was pretty typical for a sophomore season premier. I did like the extra-gory death scene, though; over the top, but genuinely scary. And I too am quite excited to learn of these different types of werewolves! (Maybe it's like blood types, or there are mildly different strains of the disease with different severities or symptoms.)
*Platonically - as I think, at least - or otherwise.

I'm afraid the doctor will turn into Mitchell's love interest and the bartender seemed a bit too upset at the sight of Annie and the very-handsome (wasn't George Yes, very handsome- sigh wonderful? xD) customer...
What did you think of Mitchell's speech about Annie being alone for all that time before they moved in and George being alone for six months before they met and him being alone for all the time before George?
I didn't even notice the similarities between Lauren and Daisy... *drop* (I like Daisy better though.)
Anyway, I'm glad they upped the completely changed werewolves this season even if I think all those muscles were a bit over the top...
Different types of werewolves? When did they mention this? I must have missed it! * O_O
All in all, the girls definitely won the prize this time :)

Date: 2010-01-14 10:01 pm (UTC)Aw, goldfish! THIS MAKES ME HAPPY. And, er, did you watch the "previews" bit after the credits? Because there's more about the doctor there, but I haven't figured out the coding to black-out text, and I don't want to spoiler. As for the bartender - I think he just thought, oh no, there goes bad news, though I'm not exactly clear why. (You have to admit, it's probably not a good idea for a young, attractive, somewhat oblivious bartender to invite a male customer she doesn't know from Adam to use the phone in her house. Even if everyone's intentions were innocent, there could still be some major misunderstandings.)
It was a really quick, almost throwaway comment - after the werewolf died bloodily, one of the researcher guys says something to the effect of, "Now we're all out of Type 3s". Of course, nobody has any idea if that's referring to werewolves or blood types or toilet paper or what. (As for the muscles - really, too much? I liked them. I mean, I don't know where all this extra body mass is coming from or going to - and I suspect I don't want to know the answer - but it stands to reason that these hugely terrible creatures, who are literally strong enough to tear a man apart, would have a fair amount of muscle.)
Ha, yes. Mitchell and George are going to have to settle for not getting their way very much anymore, now that the girls have a Coalition.
There was a speech? I must rewatch, because I completely missed that bit. And as far as George being an, er, arsehole**, I would have been really surprised had it not been for the Tully Incident. Because it's obvious that, while most of the time he's a pretty decent guy (if a little bit high-strung), George definitely has these nastier sides of his personality, especially when he's feeling self-confident (especially sexually confident), probably stemming from some deep insecurities that I suspect were there even before the wolf. I mean, he's basically the British version of Rodney McKay. Neurotic, intelligent, not particularly brave, bad with social interaction, and a dick when it comes to sex - were it not for some very strong redeeming qualities he displays throughout the show (especially the finale! Gah! Best George episode ever!), he would be a very difficult character to like, and if he was a real person I'd probably sock him in the face within five minutes of meeting him.
*At least they didn't completely go the Madonna and the whore route, which I was worried about for a while with the Lauren/Annie contrast. (Evil=yes, sex! vs. good=love not sex.) But then there was Nina, who while "good" is just as into sex as George and even instigated it, and forged a relationship out of it - a combination that's pretty rare on television, sadly. And this is only one of the many, many reasons why I love Nina, but I won't go into the ways here, because that would be a VERY long post.
**You don't happen to be British, do you?

Date: 2010-01-15 05:07 pm (UTC)No, I haven't seen the previews, they weren't included in the episode I have... :/
You're probably right about the bartender... I guess I'm just paranoid about new character = love interest...
I'm not much of a love interest fan. I like Nina because she's a great character and The Doctor (hihihi, reminds me of Doctor Who :D ) seems to have potential, but a lot of shows just can't seem to pull it off. I'm afraid they might ruin the group interaction George, Annie and Mitchell have. I guess I'm still a bit hung up on the original pilot *sigh* Not that I don't love the "real cast" but I really liked how these three quirky characters balanced each other out :) I fear the introduction of lots of others could destroy that.
but I haven't figured out the coding to black-out text
I'm pretty sure you just change the font colour to white (Though I think I might have seen it with a grey background once and that wouldn't work, would it... :S)
I see werewolves as more wolf-like than most people apparently do. *drop* For me they are pretty much just huuuuuge wolves and what makes them so dangerous is mostly their size and the fact that they like hunting a lot (since they only get to once a month)
I was mostly annoyed at the six pack (I've never seen anything doggy with a six pack ;) ) because it was pretty much the only part of the wolf not covered in fur... It kind of makes sense since the BH werewolf has a lot of human features but still... IDK, maybe I'm just being weird...
I didn't catch the remark about type 3s... I GUESS I MUST WATCH AGAIN! :D (My bet is on toilette paper. They use it to mop up all the blood because they can just flush it down the loo afterwards! It's probably the extra thick one with 3 layers. Or something.)
Ah, not British here (though I'd like to be, they get much better tv-shows. :/ ). I'm German so I have the liberty of using both British and American vocab. ;) (Mostly British though because that's what we learn at school. Also, I often change it with the shows I'm talking about. I probably would automatically use more American words if this was about Supernatural.) I just like the way arsehole sounds in comparison to asshole. Rougher somehow. *is a freak*
Dunno if you can call it a speech... It was probably no more than a few sentences but they sort of stuck in my brain. (I'm a sucker for those hints of codependency)
You're right about George. I really should rewatch the first series, I had nearly forgotten about the Tulli scenario!
Somehow I imagine I'd get along better with Rodney though. No idea why.
Sadly I have to say I'm a lot like him in all the nasty ways *drop*
For not knowing what to write I sure wrote a lot. ^^°
