A, The moment of silence this morning

B, A People's History of the United States
+ C, all the Republican swiftboating shit
+ D, the women who want the neoconservative governor of 6.4% of the country to
help run 100%, because she seems "just like them", "genuine" (hint: think Bush Jr.,
2000 Campaign) because of this American ideology where intellectuals are suspect
and only idiots are fit to run the country

When E are the white kids who thought it'd be funny to name their group "REGGIN" (hint: hold up to a mirror); and F The idiots who spent the bus ride screaming "Fuck the fags!" out the windows

Me, pretty fucking pissed.

What is wrong with people?

Do K-12 schools have a moment of silence every anniversary of 9/11?

My mind continually boggles at female supporters of Sarah Palin. It's an abject failure on just so many fronts.

E and F remind me of how inadequate the English language is in terms of obscenities. I mean, whenever I run into this shit, I feel like I need to coin some new ones.

I believe so. I think we had some sort of... thing last year; this year, it was a moment of silence at 9:45AM, the time the planes hit. I think. And the teacher talked for about thirty seconds and then the bell rang and we all ran out the door. Honestly, t might have been less insulting to the victims if we hadn't had anything at all. The force-fed sympathy is just... it doesn't work. It's like after a death and people say, I'm sorry, and they didn't even know the person who died. It cheapens true grief.

According to m'mum - who apparently fancies herself somewhat of a talking head - it's the same principles at work here that did in the election for Gore. (At that point in my life, I was busy shoving Gwen Edwards' head into the sandbox and petitioning the principal for class pets, and thus none too concerned with the election. I'll just have to take her word for it, as much as it rankles.) "Bush," she says, "was someone that people thought they could just kick back and have a beer with, while Gore was stuck up. And now they don't have beer or a house!"

I can't understand the reluctance of Americans to appreciate intelligent people. Anti-elitism is one thing, but taking pride in our collective ignorance? D'oh.

It's very repetitive, true. And as we all know - use a word or phrase too often (global warming, I'm looking at you) and it becomes meaningless pretty damn fast.

Yes, that's a good analogy - just so.

"And now they don't have beer or a house!"

Well said... I agree with your mother's take on it, from what I remember of the election!

True, although that hadn't occurred to me then; I always want something worse than anything the English language can currently provide to call those asshole bigots.
