I'm actually not sure about Jensen Ackles hair. It does look blond sometimes but other times it's pretty dark (I wouldn't call it brown though). I'm guessing it depends a lot on the lighting and how much sun he's seen lately / how short it is.

So I did some research, because I'm a dork:
Apparently he was blond as a child (which loads of people are) and on Smallville.
This (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blond) is what wikipedia has to say on varieties of blond hair.
The thing is, even pretty dark hair can count as blond (my sister's does for instance) if it doesn't fit into the category of brown hair (Ashen hair, for instance, is mostly labeled blond not brown even though it might be darker than some shades of brow.
(And if that Afghan girl counts as blond, Jensen probably does too.) Also, I'm guessing if he grew his hair out he'd probably end up with a color similar to the Danish guy in the picture.

However, I guess a lot of those labels are personal interpretation. I'm pretty sure one can neither state that he's definitely blond haired nor that he's definitely not. :)

Aha, thank you. I happen to think it's awesome as well, and I've just been dying for an excuse to use it.

Can't argue with Wikipedia. (Or, well, I can, but I digress.) Probably what you said about personal interpretation is the strongest for me - personally, I think he's a brunette. A light one, yes, who had blond hair as a child (as is often the case with light brunettes) and whose hair tints to blond/yellow in the right light (or when it's very short, which also has to do with how much light reaches the hair), but a brunette nonetheless. Then again, Ackles - and, that Afghani girl, and in retrospect, myself - is in that nebulous not-quite-blond-nor-brunette area that no one seems to know what to call. Like, to some people he'd be a dirty blond (technically incorrect) and to some a very light brunette. But apparently technically they're blond? Ack. Dunno. When I was making this post, though, I was more referring to the artists who will make his hair, like, banana yellow. We're talking Captain America blond. This blond. Which I think we can all agree is not Ackles' hair color, whether he's technically a blond or not.
