...If "RONON" is related to "RONIN".

Probably not, but still. Kinda cool coincidence, yeah?

most of my SCC episodes are on unlabeled CDs (d'oh!)

Ha. I myself am quite familiar with the plight of the unmarked CDs. Especially how one always seems to find the buggers in this order - disks 1, 3, 4, 6, 5, and never 2. Also: "hands up to it"?

I have so many unmarked CDs, I quail a little at the prospect of looking through them for what I want. (I know, my diamond shoes are too tight. But my CD burner's been broken for a while now; I guess the one upside is that I haven't been adding to the stacks since then?)

I've been on a month-long hiatus from most of the blogosphere due to an injury to my left hand that has yet to heal (which is also the case for another injury to my left hand incurred at the beginning of October); as you may know, an injury to my right hand a year and a half ago has had disabling, painful effects with no solution yet in sight.

I did not know, actually; I remember you writing a while ago on someone else's writing about living with chronic pain and medications - weighing side effects against benefits - but was not sure whether or not to ask about it, as this is the Internets, and I'm never really sure of the code of conduct around these parts.

But I am sorry, for what it's worth, and sympathetic. I suppose that's the worst part about disability, isn't it: that there isn't a clear solution in sight. Injured hands must be the worst, I'd think, because you do so much with them - and not just the generic you, but the specific, the woman who writes such long lovely discussions and essays.

Is the injury to the left related to the injury on the left?

no worries, I wasn't reproaching you. I posted a little about my hands in my last entry (no more than what I've c&p here), but I know the backlog can get really long if you're on hiatus from your friendslist for any length of time, or even if you aren't—and even if you use viewing filters.

yeah, the lack of answers has been really frustrating; I've been to four surgeons and yesterday my original one pretty much admitted he's given up, so I'm giving up on those guys, if not the surgeon recommended whom I'd have to visit in the next state. I'm reminded so often of how much I rely on my hands. whenever I went to the main library at my local university and wanted to buy food during a research break, I ALWAYS felt resentful that there are no automated doors whatsoever from the lobby to the caf. every time, renewed resentment. and so on. (it's not a very mobility-impaired friendly campus.) I'm planning on getting voice-activated software, but it's not a good idea right now since my computer seems to have some kind of virus or malware.

aw, thank you. I don't think I've posted any of my own essays in months, partly due to the condition of my hand(s); it's mostly just pointing and "what they said!" it's true I'm more inclined to be verbose in comments, as you of course know, heh.

the initial accidents that caused the injuries in my left hand were different both from each other and from the accident that fucked up my right hand. I think the resultant problems are probably all unrelated to each other, though I am no doctor. on the other hand (ha!) none of the doctors I've seen have any kind of adequate explanation, either.

I'll tell you a secret: my friendslist kind of scares me. It's so big, except that it's not, and unmanageable/confusing, except that - no, okay, it is. So I probably don't check it as often as I should, even when I have relatively unbroken periods of computer usage.

To be even more honest, I'm not sure how exactly to say, "sorry", because I am, but it's that futility again, of being miles away and lifestyles apart and not really being able to do anything anyway except being there if you ever want to vent. I hope the next-state surgeon has some answers for you. When will you know?

(And on a slightly lighter note, I will take a moment to point out that, Macs? Pwn PCs. For they, unlike said PCs and also Mexican pigs, do not get viruses.)

yeah, I get that—I'm usually backed up with respect to getting to my friends' posts, too.

oh, I understand. I wasn't trolling for sympathy, just talking out the frustration a little; I do appreciate your sympathy, though. I'm not going to be able to visit that surgeon for a while. I'm not sure how long: it might be two weeks or two months, depending on how my schedule pans out. I had to cancel the appointment once and haven't yet been able to reschedule, due to all that.

yes, I have considered getting a Mac, since I've been looking toward a new computer for more than a year, but it seems a good number of Windows-compatible programs don't work on Macs. and I'm not even a gamer. sigh.
From: [identity profile] vanitashaze.livejournal.com
For the record, I didn't think you were trolling for sympathy; I'm just never know what to say in these situations, and so usually say the first thing that comes to mind, which is an awkward declaration of support and sympathy (but rarely empathy).

The program thing is very annoying - it was one of the reasons I so delighted in having a PC a few years ago - but lately I've found that it's not such a problem, as more and more programmers are either making the updated versions Mac/PC compatible or even creating a Mac version of the program. I mean, unpacking software, music, video, imaging, internet, film, word processing; I've found Mac versions of all of those, and can't really think of any other programs one would really need. (Then again, brainstorming is not my forte.)

that's good to hear! will keep it in mind as I gear up for a new computer.
