This is a bit bloody ridiculous. Or, recs and rollerderby.

The orders of business today:

[1] Wheeeee! Journal re-vamping!
[2] Reason for journal re-vamping: day off. Reason for day off: food poisoning, or possible stomach virus. AM NOT HAPPY.

[3] DC*Rollergirls derby last night and it was fun like whoah. Didn't start out too great, though - had to walk several blocks in the cold with no jacket, with the demonchild pulling at my arm or any other appendage that got too close, and was then forced to fork over two Swiss Army thingies and a switchyknife by the door guard (all of which, for some reason, I had put in my pocket and then forgot about). The first match was kind of bleh, and I was thinking about leaving early, but I'm glad I didn't, because Round 2 was DC Demoncats against Scare Force One! Even though SF1 won something like 102 to 30 (sorry, girls, you tried!), both teams were totally kickass. Meatball, babe - you rawk.

[4] Having completed my mad DW/TW Fic-(Reading)-a-Thon, I have recs: fics that made me laugh, made me cry, made me scramble around on the floor trying to collect the little itty pieces of my heart/brain/whatever after it exploded with emotion. So, even though I know this will reach a next to nothing amount of people -

Bring Out Your Dead by Cherry Ice. Jack in the aftermath of the Game Station. Ashes to ashes, or really, heartbreak like a bad acid trip.
The Torchwood Patient by [livejournal.com profile] misslucyjane. Ianto/Jack, Ianto/Jack Harkness (yes, there is a difference); AU. Intruiging, sad, beautiful, and definately sniffle-inducing.
Manifesto by [livejournal.com profile] ariafic. Ten, body & lies. Quote: If your body is beautiful, let it be. Let Sarah Jane look at you as though she has never seen you before, not you the form but you the function, every last bit of yourself new.
A Cyborg Manifesto by [livejournal.com profile] kindkit. Ianto/Jack, Ianto/Lisa. Summary: Of bodies and machines. Detatched, unsubtle, & grieving.
the frozen hours by [livejournal.com profile] noldo_. Martha seeing the world. In collage, and kaleidascope, and full-color reception.
From This Day to the Ending of the World by [livejournal.com profile] icebluenothing. The definitive Nine fic.
Like Stitches In the Scar by [livejournal.com profile] paperclipbitch. Jack/Ianto, a bit AU. Jack is old and bitter, and yet there's a innocent sort of hopefulness throughout that makes it all the more painful.
it's no place you can get to by yourself by [livejournal.com profile] _starrystarry. Blink.
To the End by [livejournal.com profile] sheldrake. Jack/Estelle, Jack/Ianto. Summary: He always means it at the time.
Rose Tyler's History of Sex by [livejournal.com profile] misscam. Doctor/Rose, Rose/Mickey, others. Despite the title, this is not smut, porn, crack, or any variation thereof. It is painfully honest, brutal, the history of a life & legacy.
Whatever Pays the Wages by [livejournal.com profile] paperclipbitch. Captain Jack Harkness behind the smiling mask. And, whoah. This will leave an aftertaste.
At Thirty Paces by [livejournal.com profile] rallalon. Jack/Rose/Doctor. By the end, any compassion will be a tender, whimpering wreck on the floor, and chances are so will you.
Metric by [livejournal.com profile] th_esaurus. Doctor/Master, AU for the finale.
Cura Deum Di Sint by [livejournal.com profile] zabbers. Jack/Ianto, Ianto/Lisa. "Let cares of gods be gods". Bleak.
Reach Out & Touch (the Within Your Reach remix) by [livejournal.com profile] misslucyjane. I seem to have an aversion to fics that end happily, and I'm not sure if this counts, but it's the closest. Ianto after 1.4 Cyberwoman.

(And, because even I need some cheering up sometimes...)
Trying to Communicate by [livejournal.com profile] sam_storyteller. It's likely that everyone in the whole bloody world has read this by now, because it was rec'ced to the ends of fandom and back (not to mention, the author is practically a celebrity), but this must be included. Summary: There's an alien in the hub, and it's trying to communicate. And yes, it does include LOL-cats.
The Torchwood Company Anthem as written by [livejournal.com profile] redscharlach. To the tune of "The Village Green Preservation Society", as sung by either The Kinks or Kate Rusby. "Hell yeah, we're Torchwood Three."

Ooh, I'm all over this. I'm always looking for TW recs. ♥ And I think I've only read one of these. :D

Guess my obsessive reading / +meming is worth something then. :)

I've seen a bunch of these around and even read some before ("A Cyborg Manifesto" made a good impression), but not all. Nice! You've inspired me to set out my own New Who and TW recs sometime.
